Meet queue for robots - robots rendezvous to transfer payload from one to another

Using an example to describe the idea:

Siemens is using Origin for each picking of parts into boxes. Some of those boxes are shipped via parcel service, but many are placed on a putwall where the box full of eaches must be added to a pallet full of cases or large items. Once the box full of eaches are combined with the case-picked-items, the entire pallet is wrapped and shipped via LTL.


We are working on a contract to deploy Max for case picking in this building and part of the COO design is that the Max bots will have to drive over to the putwall and pickup the eaches that go with the LTL order.


A better way to handle this would be for the Max and the Origin to meet in the aisles, or in Max's drop off area, so that a picker could transfer the box of eaches to the pallet and complete the LTL order.


One of the processes that Siemens has to work around is that they (currently, doing manual picking) can't release the case-pick orders until after the each-picking part of the orders have been completed. This is so that the box of eaches is at the putwall, and the LTL order isn't held up.


There might be an opportunity to improve that process if the Origin can send a message when its last pick is completed, or the order is almost completed, and then head towards the Max meeting place, rather than going to drop off at the putwall. It would eliminate the labor needed at the putwall for those deducting from the bot and picking it from the putwall on the other side.


DHL-Henkel has the same need exactly.

Problem/opportunity trying to be solved

Customers need to use a putwall to combine each-picked items, which might be picked using Origin bots, with LTL pallets, which would be picked using Max.

Quantify the problem/opportunity

Most of our customers who do each picking also do case picking. And most of the Max customers for case picking also have an each picking need. So all of those customers might need this.

What is the root cause of the problem/opportunity

Picking eaches into a small box is a fundamentally different process from case picking.
