When visiting VF in Belgium yesterday our contact there mentioned that they have been thinking about alternatives to the flagpoles that we have added to the Locus robots. For shorter staff and/or higher shelves (for example pallet racking) the flagpoles are not visible and therefore not useful. The client mentioned that they came up with an idea to add LED lights to the shelve heads in the main aisles, similar to parking garages these days (see photos) to identify aisles where dwelling bots are. The LED's would potentially be able to also show bot statuses and therefore not be able to identify dwelling bots, but also errors and priority orders.
Problem/opportunity trying to be solved
When visiting VF in Belgium yesterday our contact there mentioned that they have been thinking about alternatives to the flagpoles that we have added to the Locus robots. For shorter staff and/or higher shelves (for example pallet racking) the flagpoles are not visible and therefore not useful. They are interested in solutions to find dwelling bots quickly as an alternative to the flagpoles. |

Quantify the problem/opportunity
The only advantage would be to find bots quicker and therefore increase productivity. Hard to put a financial number on this right now. Something that is probably a challenge is the added costs for this solution (LED's will probably be not that expensive, but R&D and cabling will be) and who will pay for that. |

What is the root cause of the problem/opportunity
The customer mentioned that the flagpoles as are being used in the VF facility in Belgium are not suitable for high(er) racking and for shorter staff who cannot see over certain shelves. |

Thanks Neil,Dan. No pressure at all from this customer, just an idea they wanted to raise.
Bob, Stuart Dunn has also raised this and the idea has been raised previously. I have a call with Lou and Paul Teare next week to look at feasibility.
