Attach lights at the height of the bot LIDAR or Realsense camera that are automatically turned on when the forks are raised, that way the lights will blind the LIDAR or realsense camera creating a fake obstacle that the bot will not try to cross under the MHE forks.
Problem/opportunity trying to be solved
Bots are getting crushed under the forks of an MHE in warehouses when the operator is storing pallets in racking. |
|
Quantify the problem/opportunity
Costs in broken down bots and field services RMAs. |
|
What is the root cause of the problem/opportunity
The main cause is that the bot will go under the forks of an MHE because there is nothing blocking its way. |

Javier - We will not pursue this given engineering feedback.
Javier - We're working on a solution using april tags being applied to MHE for release this year. I've tagged folks in engineering to review your idea.
My uneducated assessment is that it may be hard to control the distance and therefore the bots impacted. It may also have unintended consequences of blocking an entire aisle if the forks are left up. We're primarily trying to prevent bots from parking under the forks when raised, which the april tags appear to do well in engineering testing. They're also cheaper.
