Warning sounds to alert to the presence of robots in motion

The robots could use the iPad's speaker or some alternative device to emit some type of beep sound (see sample sound below), similar to that used in MHEs, when they are in motion.

Problem/opportunity trying to be solved

All robots should allow emitting sound warning signals to make sure that the appearance of a robot will be noticed by people performing manual labour or operating machines such as forklifts.

Quantify the problem/opportunity

This new functionality would improve our Passive Safety Systems to minimize or prevent the risk of injury in an accident.

What is the root cause of the problem/opportunity

Warehouse employees at DHL Zerniki complain about not being able to hear the robots coming and they fear to be hit when robots inadvertently approach them from behind or from a blind spot.

At the moment we will only do this if it is a regulatory requirement. It is planned for certain Max use cases.

In general we have not seen the need for this. High level of concern that total noise produced at a large site like Zolando would be high irritating and eventually ignored by associates while providing little functional value. We have ~12K robots deployed without this. Will review request with team.
